It was another beautiful day in Minneapolis. For someone who has spent close to thirty years in the Pacific Northwest, it’s still somewhat surprising and disconcerting to have so many blue skies so many days in a row. It happened when I lived in Southern California, true, but one expects it there. I hadn’t been anticipating the brightness here and, I am told, it will only get brighter when the snow comes.

Despite safety concerns, I’m still walking the lakes, figuring that, sans bag and on feet, I’ve got nothing anyone would want. My favorite time to walk has always been around sunset, but I’m going to have to recalibrate a little. Darkness seems to fall much more quickly here than I’m used to. No slow fade, but a rapid lights out.

Sometimes I circle a lake. Other times, I walk partway around and then head into the neighborhood for the trip back. Today was one of those days and what I came upon as I walked made me smile and gave me hope. It motivated me to write this post as I wanted to share it with you.

I’m taking it as an affirmation of the possibility that I too will, in the fullness of time, take this city into my heart. I’d rather love than not.

  1. My grandparents lived in St. Paul and I have so many wonderful memories. I still have lots of cousins in the twin cities. I would live there for sure! Enjoy!

  2. Ruth…you wrote, regarding the photo of a family’s love for Minneapolis: “I’m taking it as an affirmation of the possibility that I too will, in the fullness of time, take this city into my heart. I’d rather love than not.” This is a very good plan, my friend! May it become so.
