I don’t know about you, but I have zero interest in watching an old man preen at the podium while he bloviates and spews self-serving lies, insults, abuse, and empty boasts. Nor can I tolerate the sight and sound of cheers and applause from the half of Congress that has misplaced their moral compass (if ever they had one) and spines (if they ever had those), while they pretend that the BS coming out of his mouth can pass as some semblance of normal political discourse. I wouldn’t mind seeing which members of the other party walk out at what point, the empty seats of those boycotting entirely, and the reactions of the invited Epstein survivors, but I’m sure all of that will be highlighted in tomorrow’s news. Unless, of course, you’re watching Fox. Which I won’t be.
Okay. Got that, more or less, off my chest.
Fortunately, there are alternatives to tonight’s official clown show. At 7 PM Eastern, Defiance.org is presenting The State of the Swamp at D.C.’s National Press Club. The roster of speakers includes Robert DeNiro, Senator Ron Wyden, Mayor Jacob Frey, Jim Acosta, Don Lemon, Joyce Vance, and Norm Eisen. It’s free to livestream.
And at 8 PM Eastern (or thereabouts), MeidasTouch and MoveOn are streaming, for free, The People’s State of the Union, a rally on the National Mall with, among others, Senators Ruben Gallego, Chris Murphy, Adam Schiff, Tina Smith, and Chris Van Hollen, and Representatives Maxwell Frost, Robert Garcia, Jim Himes, Pramila Jayapal, and Melanie Stansbury. This one is hosted by Joy Reid and Katie Phang.
Wouldn’t it be satisfying if these two events got more combined viewers than the State of the Union? As Defiance.org says: Boycott Trump’s speech. Join our party.
