Time to take action by Barry Rosenbaum

First, the Trump Administration said they would only go after criminals who were not in this country legally. Then, they said they would only be going after those who were not American citizens. Absolute lies. Anyone with brown skin quickly became fair game. So too did other non-white residents, whose only infraction was being born in or having ancestors from poor, developing countries with largely non-white populations.

If you are white, you might have thought to yourself—with some relief mixed with guilt, “I’m safe.” But we are all of the same humanity, and that alone should have led us to decry what is being perpetrated on the Hispanic and Latino communities and on so many other minority communities that have long called America home. And millions have protested these abusive, illegal, and immoral actions. No one should be able call themselves a person of faith and not condemn this treatment. But as despicable as this practice has been, this saga is far from over. Its breadth of inhumanity only continues to grow. Now they are coming for all of us. Any one of us could have been Renee Nicole Good. If you are in the wrong place at the wrong time, ICE can and may kill you.

This administration is ICE — Imperious, Corrupt, and Evil. What happened to Ms. Good was an inevitable outcome of this Administration’s explicit policies. In response to this horror, Trump took the Art of the Gaslight to rarefied heights, expecting us to disbelieve indisputable video evidence plainly showing the murder that occurred. To that, we say the veil has been lifted, and you can go to hell.

We must remove these American traitors from office.  Don’t think 2028! This year is our time, and we must be bold. Trump and all his toadies must be ousted through all available legal processes. To think we can wait until 2028 is to bury our heads in the sand and imagine that this is still the political world we knew before Trump’s insane rise to power. They have proven themselves to be anti-democratic, white nationalist, power-hungry whores.

Fascism must be dealt with at the same pace that the fascists seek to destroy our democracy and its bedrock principles. We cannot simply bide our time, waiting for the next presidential election cycle, seemingly helpless in the face of the irreparable harm that failing to act swiftly will do to our country and our world.

When the power of the State is used to execute citizens on the streets at the whim of the State, we must rise up in opposition. Indeed, it is way past time to put an end to this monumental betrayal. No, Mr. Trump, we are not going down this road anymore!
