How can we hope that a liar’s lie is true?

In this case, it is the claim that our bombers have destroyed Iran’s nuclear development and that this will bring us closer to peace in the Middle East. I was almost caught off guard until VP Vance, speaking on TV, slipped in “blame Biden” if terrorism happens on our shores as a result of this airstrike, because Biden let the bad guys come over the border. That tired song no longer covers the blunders of this administration.

One explanation for the bombing might have been the No Kings rallies — so successful that they frightened Trump into starting a new, distracting war, given the fact that the start of a war can make the people rally round the flag. In this case, the flag is the Jolly Roger, with its skull and bones — embraced by DJT.

Once again, with Trump and company, it was the politicization of death. We cannot hide from the fact that we have a president who is too stupid to learn from the lessons of past wars in the Middle East. Early victories ending with shameful retreats. But the lesson we learned from WW2, when Germany marched victoriously across Europe, is that the victory march ends in inglorious defeat. Let’s go back to Napoleon. On second thought, let’s not. We will end up with the defeat of the cocksure Romans at the hands of the Goths and Vandals.

It seems almost a secondary matter that this President has violated our constitution by abrogating it once again — the document that gives Congress the sole right to declare war. Trump claims that this was not an act of war.

They say a broken clock is right twice a day — but I fear that a broken president is never right. In this case, I hope that I am wrong and the dove of peace flies over the Middle East. But sadly, even the dove knows better than DJT where bombings end. Let us hope that for once the snake oil salesman had some real medicine in his wagon — and that there is a peaceful resolution to this bungler’s adventuring. No soldiers killed. No civilians maimed. It could happen— but could is not a word that I would risk a soldier’s life upon. Keep the peace. Better days are ahead of us if we join together in no more wars.
